Heart of Walker

The Walker Riverside Regeneration Programme is an ambitious and exciting scheme for Newcastle’s East End, which covers an area stretching from Byker, in the west, to Wallsend, in the east. The aim is to reverse the population decline and address the lack of choice for home ownership and larger family housing needs.

The population is expected to grow around a new ‘Heart’ of Walker, which will provide high-quality services in a new local centre. Key to achieving this will be the provision of more affordable housing for sale and rent, developed to high quality design and environmental standards. This will attract new residents to the area and encourage others to stay. Investment in the Heart of Walker will include a new primary school; new, quality retail facilities; a 'multi-use building' containing a GP surgery, pharmacy and other community facilities; residential properties; and a new public space.
