The Future Jobs Fund (FJF) is a Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) initiative to create real jobs for young people and those in disadvantaged areas. The jobs will be funded for 6 months by DWP and must be new jobs, which demonstrate either environmental or community benefit.

Newcastle City Council, as part of a Tyne and Wear City Region bid, aims to generate 400 jobs across the two phases of the project. Phase 2 starts in April and the City Region has expressed confidence that DWP support will be secured.

The bid offers three types of vacancies:

  1. Jobs within the council
  2. Jobs where the employer is Newcastle City Council and the trainee is then seconded to a partner organisation, such as Byker Bridge or Your Homes Newcastle
  3. Jobs with external employers, such as Building Futures East and Crisis, who employ the trainee directly.

The NCC FJF team has led on employer engagement and recruitment for the first two groups and Newcastle Futures has worked with external employers.
