Meeting Rooms and Exhibition Space
Newcastle’s new City Library is a six storey building in the city centre. Outstanding in all aspects, this fabulous building is an ideal venue for exhibitions, music and drama performances, meetings, training sessions or exams. Just two minutes walk from the Monument, the main entrance in on New Bridge Street West with a second entrance on Princess Square beside the Library’s attractive cafe on level 2. Concessionary hire rates may be available for community groups and partners.
Vouchers for free room hire
Vouchers for free room hire can be used to claim one free full day session against our normal room hire charge. The free session can be used for rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 or 8 depending on availability and must be used in normal library opening hours. This offer includes the use of any standard equipment listed on our room hire details but does not include the cost for any catering. Only one voucher can be used per person and our standard room hire terms and conditions apply to all free and paid for bookings.

The Bewick Hall and meeting rooms
The Bewick Hall seats up to 185 with a sprung wooden floor, spotlights, stage and PA system suitable to host a variety of activities. Eight meeting rooms are also available for hire and can seat from 12 to 185 people. We can set rooms out in a variety of styles including boardroom, classroom, cabaret or theatre. All rooms can be booked for a morning, afternoon or evening session (3 hours).

We leave a gap of one hour between sessions to allow time to rearrange furniture and equipment for the next session. Rooms are also available outside normal opening hours for an extra charge. Catering is available through the City Library cafe. View the cafe price list. (PDF, 69KB)
Exhibition space
We have an exhibition area just inside the entrance from Princess Square and there is the possibility of using other space within City Library for displays. All exhibition spaces are bookable by the week and each hire period starts and finishes at noon on Thursdays.
Computers and digital services
The building has free wi-fi access throughout. We also have a range of display and ICT equipment including flat screen TVs, digital projectors and interactive whiteboards. The use of this equipment is included in the hire charge and we have staff on hand to provide technical support.
Accessibility
All rooms are easily accesible by wheelchair and the Bewick Hall can be set out with several dedicated wheelchair spaces. There are accessible toilets on every floor and an adult change room on level 2.
